Kyla, Rich Alvarez wedding will have vintage Hollywood theme

Sunday, July 24th, 2011

Filipina R & B singer Kyla will wed her boyfriend of five years, basketball star Rich Alvarez of the Talk n’ Text team in November of this year. Important details, such as the church and reception venue, will still have to be announced but this early, the bride says she wants it to have a “vintage Hollywood” theme.

“I want my guests to look beautiful and glamorous. They don’t necessarily have to be in formal, long gowns…just looking glamorous is enough.”

Kyla’s one more request is for her parents to sing at the reception. “My mom and dad were members of the same choir before, and it’s really my wish for them to sing the songs they’ve sang before, especially Filipino Kundiman songs.

So far, Rich and Karla have already filmed their Save the Date, pre-wedding video which was shot in Virgin Beach Resort in San Juan, Batangas. This lovely video was shot by Nice Print Photography.

Robin Padilla-Mariel Rodriguez Sept. 13 wedding

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

In what looks like a tribal Igorot wedding, movie actor Robin Padilla has wed his girlfriend of only a few months (or is it weeks?) Mariel Rodriguez last September 13 in romantic Baguio City. We watched today’s TV Patrol Episode showing Robin and Mariel wearing woven ethnic clothing. Reports said a native priest officiated the Ibaloi ceremony, with the couple drinking tapuy (rice wine) and performing the tayaw native dance to symbolize their union and love for each other.

Though naysayers are ready to express their doubts of the endurance of this union, I find it refreshing to see them embark on a tribal wedding that it, at once, unconventional and focuses on native customs and traditions in the Philippines. Perhaps, it entails being a celebrity to do something that’s completely out of the beaten track. Robin explained that they chose a tribal wedding because his mother, Eva Carino, is an Igorot. Actually, the ceremony reminds me of another whirlwind romance of yore – Boyet (Christopher de Leon) and Ate Guy (Nora Aunor) who were wed in a beach in Pagudpud, if my memory serves me right :D

Theme wedding packages from the Diamond Hotel

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Saying ‘I do’ has never been more creative with the assortment of theme wedding packages from the Diamond Hotel, ranging from the cool to the fanciful.

Diamond Hotel theme wedding

For example, the Cherry Blossoms Theme portrays the soft side of Japanese pop art and natural elements. The effect is almost Zen-like with the use of pastels and muted hues and a tranquil feel that soothes the soul. For this package, the hotel’s famed Yurakuen Restaurant prepares a banquet, with platter after platter of tasty Japanese dishes that can only astound guests for their pure taste.

All that Jazz wedding theme

The All that Jazz theme, on the other hand, is for music lovers. The design uses muted colors of blue and purple in materials that resemble the night sky. Deriving inspiration from jazz, swing and blues, the centerpieces are miniature saxophones, trumpets and other instruments. The over-all impression is that of a “modern bar look.”

A busy season for celebrity weddings & betrothals

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

It’s only the first quarter of the year and we’re already seeing a lot of engagements and weddings from celebrity couples.

What more ordinary mortals like you and me? Oh well, I got married in January this year myself! What is it with 2009, and what luck does it hold for us?

After the Harrison Ford-Calista Flockhart hush-hush engagement, here’s a short list of famous people who tied the knot and who’s set to walk down the aisle soon. Pardon me, am star-struck!

Christina Ricci and Owen Benjamin, both actors. She’s 5′1″ and he’s 6′6″, but that hasn’t kept them from playing perfect music together. We just hope they’ll not have their own Addams Family in the works, or else…. :P

Danica McKellar, who played Winnie Cooper in The Wonder Years, married her long time beau, musician Mike Verta, in an ocean-side ceremony in La Jolla, California. She’s a brilliant mathematician, but one plus one isn’t really hard to add up, this case ;)

Statuesque singer Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams of the country rock band The Cardinals got hitched in a simple courthouse ceremony, after an on-and-off relationship. He’s 34 and she’s 24.
